The true meaning of Housebreaking, is to teach your dog that it is unacceptable to relieve themselves in your home. There are several ways to Housebreak a dog but the most effective is the Crate Method. Before dogs were domesticated, their natural instinct was to relieve themselves whenever and wherever they chose; "With The Exception Of Their Den". This instinct remains true to this day.
When you bring a dog into your family, naturally YOUR home becomes the new den. Instinctually, if left to itself, your dog would establish a place to sleep and a place to eliminate. It is now your responsibility to create an understanding that this huge new den is NOT the place to go!
